Paul wrote the book of Galatians to Christians who were tempted to add good works to the gospel. They faced pressure to move on from Jesus and to live independently, following the law to secure their own salvation. Although we might not want to admit it, adding to the gospel is a great temptation for us too. Like the Galatian Christians, we sometimes live in a way that shows we think we can save ourselves and please God apart from Jesus.
