Over the last three decades, millions of people around the world have been introduced to Christianity through Alpha, a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith pioneered by Nicky Gumbel. Through the simple format
of a shared meal, a short talk and a group discussion on particular aspects of faith, many participants have encountered Jesus, accepted him as their saviour and become part of the church family.

As Alpha grew, so did the need to disciple new Christians in reading the Bible. Sensing this need, Nicky and Pippa Gumbel began to share their reflections on each passage of the NIV Bible in One Year with the church
via email. The insightful daily commentary, which draws out applicable truths from each day’s New
Testament, Old Testament and Psalms or Proverbs reading, quenched the thirst of many who were searching for an easy and accessible way to understand the Bible.
