Rose Hudson-Wilkin, author of The Girl from Montego Bay, was born and raised in Jamaica. She attended Montego Bay High School for Girls and Birmingham University. Rose trained as an Evangelist with the Church Army and was commissioned in 1982. She later trained for ordination at Queens Theological College. She was ordained deacon in 1991 and priest in 1994.
Rose served as a priest in Hackney for 16 years. In 2007, she was appointed Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen. In 2010, she became the first female Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons. She has represented the Church of England at the World Council of Churches.
Rose is passionate about preaching and media engagement, including religious broadcasting. She was a member of the Broadcasting Standards Commission. Rose is also a frequent speaker at events. She is married to Kenneth, a prison chaplain, and they have three adult children.
