Death, destruction, disease… the book of Job isn’t the easiest read. A man who leads an upright life, suddenly plunged into the depths of despair, does not sit well with us. But there is more to the story than that, and precious wisdom can be found. By reflecting on the advice offered by Job’s ‘comforters’, we are invited to address our own understanding of seemingly random suffering. Job’s story ultimately points to the wisdom of God, which we can find in Jesus Christ, our hope.
